Shut the door...

How I Spent My Summer Vacation

Posted: August 26th, 2007 | Filed under: Campus, Funny, Kuwait, My Life | 5 Comments »

Some of you might know that I had two sessions of summer school this year so I had about two weeks of vacation before the fall semester starts again. This vacation was so short that there wasn’t enough time for me to feel sad and depressed about having to leave again (lol). So I guess that was cool. I really hate that feeling.

Shockingly, I am looking forward to this semester. I had a fantastic summer semester after the worst academic year I had in my life. So I’m really optomisitc to start. I have a year left (maybe a year and a half if I add another degree) so the sooner I start, the sooner I get the hell out.

My vacation started Saturday morning August 11th. I took a two hour shuttle bus to Indianapolis Airport, two hour flight to DC, 12 hour flight to Kuwait, slept for the night, took a two and a half hour flight the next morning to Alexandria, Egypt and then a two hour drive from the airport in Alex to Cairo. That’s a lot of traveling.

I spent four days in Egypt to see the other half of my family. I won’t go into details but basically, I hadn’t seen anyone in seven years and I desperatley needed to catch up on stuff and meet all the new people (kids, husbands, wives). It would have taken a miracle for those four days to have been greater than they were. I love my family.

The rest of the vacation, ten days, I spent in Kuwait. It was great to see home again as well. But, I was too late to see my big brother before he left to sea.

Anyway, I have about 30 minutes before I have to leave to go to the airport. Gonna go make me something to eat. Airplane food sucks extra these days.

Awesome Photograph

I got this in an email forward. It could be the coolest photograph I will ever see. I don’t know what lens could do that (fisheye?). I’m guessing it probablly took multiple shots and the photographer merged them together.

Best Customer Service Ever

So I went back to Wal-Mart for my follow-up appointment to see how I did with the contact lenses I got last week. I told them that they were fine but by the end of the day I had a slight headache and words and letters got a little bit blurry too. Well, they gave me another trial pair for free (30 day Acuvue Oasys) with the new prescription and asked if I can come back in a few days to see how those went. They really want to make sure I get the right prescription before I actually buy a box myself. But, I told them that I’ll be leaving the country on Saturday so instead, they gave me an EXTRA trial pair! The Doc said that I should always have a back-up especially when I’ll be leaving the country. I have never experienced better customer service. Yay for Wal-Mart Vision Center!

P.S. I’m rocking the Ray-Bans.

I’m Not Looking Forward To…

1. Painting two paintings that are due on Thursday.

2. Writing a paper due on Friday (no biggie, it’s about Bugs Bunny).

3. Packing for Kuwait by Friday night.

4. Packing for storage.

5. Moving my boxes and stuff (heavy shit) down three flights of stairs.

6. Moving those boxes into my friend’s apartment.

7. Defrosting the fridge.

8. Doing the giganitic load of laundry.

9. Saying goodbye to Putnox.

10. Realizing I forgot to do/pack/leave/send/write/buy something, three minutes after takeoff.

Good Morning

Fall 2007

Posted: August 3rd, 2007 | Filed under: Campus, My Life, Sports | 7 Comments »

K305 Statistics for Journalism = 11:15 - 12:05pm (MWF)
J464 Informational Graphics = 2:30 - 4:30pm (MW)
J375 Race, Gender & the Media = 2:30 - 3:45pm (TTh)
Y100 American Political Controversies = 4 - 6pm (TTh)
Z401 Music of the Beatles = 7 - 9pm (TTh)

I think that’s a decent looking schedule. No super early classes and the late class is the Beatles one so I doubt i’ll miss a single class. I tried to schedule classes that don’t conflict with the UEFA Champions League timeslot at 2:45-4:45pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but that was virtually impossible. But I have my secret solution. ;) It’s pretty bad but it’s OK. Those two matchdays only come weeks apart.

Hopefully i’ll have a better looking schedule next semester. Wow, in less than a year, inshalla, i’ll be able to watch any game at anytime without any problems! Yipee ka yaay!
