The Spice Girls!
Many news sources (international ones) have been reporting for some time that the Spice Girls were planning a comeback. It’s true and they have reunited! It looks like they are just as excited as all their fans must be. But don’t be too happy, it’s only for a short period of time. As a “goodbye to [their] fans,” they have planned a worldwide tour of 11 concerts starting December 7th, 2007 in Los Angeles. Hopefully, I will be able to make it to one of those 11 locations. (Inshalla inshalla inshalla) The concerts will be of them performing their greatest hits only, with possibly one or two new songs. Each member will be earning $20 million!
Many might think that it sucks that they will be performing their old songs but I think that’s awesome! It’ll be like imagining you were at one of their concerts in 1997 or 1998! I would love to have that feeling!
The Spice Girls were a huge part of my childhood and they were what got me into music. At 11 years old in 1997, I didn’t even know the concept of enjoying music. All I knew were the musicals we had on VHS (Mary Poppins, the Sound of Music, Annie etc.) and the old CDs my parents had of the Beatles, Rod Stewart and whatever. Then came the Spice Girls and everything changed. It was just pure fun. Everyone had a favorite Spice according to their personality. Naturally, mine was Sporty Spice. But we loved them all equally.
The year they broke up was a sad one. I had just changed schools and had no group of girls to hang out with at lunch-time and talk about the new dance (lol), merchandise and whatever. Suddenly, they weren’t cool.
But a couple of years later, I would say I was proud to be a Spice Girls fan! And I was surprised to see that those who said “are you serious?! the Spice Girls?! you’re such a baby!” were fans too!
Mel C (Sporty), Geri (Ginger) and Emma (Baby) have had successful solo careers in Europe with each having a couple of albums to their name. Mel B (Scary) was busy making babies, and Victoria (Posh) has since been working on being the best footballer’s wife ever.
It would be cool if they went back to their old costumes and hairstyles, but that would asking for too much. Haha. But hopefully they will at the concerts.
Enjoy this song for old time’s sake!
