Omri Evron: “Why I can’t become a soldier in the IDF”
This is why we shouldn’t hate all Iraelis or all Jews. There are good ones out there. Many Jews are against Zionism and many Israelis are against the occupation of Palestinian lands, and as vaguely mentioned in the article, they don’t know it yet.
“I, Omri Evron, refuse to serve in the IDF because I am faithful to the moral principles in which I believe. My refusal to enlist is in protest against the longstanding military occupation of the Palestinian people, an occupation that deepens and entrenches the hatred and terror between peoples. I oppose participation in the cruel war for the control over the occupied territories, a war waged in order to protect the Israeli settlements …
Though I am aware that this act constitutes an infringement of Israeli law, I am compelled to stand by my democratic, humanist and egalitarian values. Military rule over millions of Palestinians is not democratic. It is my duty to oppose any law that makes it possible to deprive others of their rights and freedom, or to treat them with such violence that their fundamental humanity is negated.”

If that showed up on an American blog, it would be racist, wouldn’t it?
It amazes me how people can be so blind in their hatreds.

i’m not an israeli/jew hater..
i was pointing out that many (definitley not all) middle easterns don’t like israelis.. jews are not disliked as much as they are.. since there are arab jews too..
and if that was on an american blog then it would called a light among american ignorance.. US troops are occupying iraq yet most americans (at least those who know what and where the middle east is) think iraqis and arabs are terrorists.. excuse me.. who is being occupied?
most arabs hate israelis because they occupy palestinian land..

One of the very first things we learned in “Islamiya” subject back in school is: “Never say I’m against Judaism; always say I’m against Zionism”.
I guess that story emphasizes on the true meaning behind that saying.

Craig, if I read “this is why we whouldn’t hate all Palestinians or all Arabs. There are good ones out there” on an American blog I would think, hey… that’s a good start.. there are Americans who are fair and un prejudiced and don’t judge a whole people by individual actions or a minority. So saying that about Israelis and Jews is just as open minded from an Arab.. one who doesn’t judge a whole people because their leaders see fit to dehumanize Palestinians in every possible way under the sun, systematically and continuously for over 50 years! Capicse?
