Becks Not Retired Yet!

I thought the end of this season will be the sad retirement of one of the most talented players in history (the MLS is a joke so yes, I consider it retirement). Sad because 2006 sucked for David Beckham what with another dissappointing season with Real Madrid, an embarrasing World Cup showing, the stepping down as England national team captain, getting booted off the national team by the new manager, spending the first half of the new season warming the Real Madrid bench and finally being pressured (by his wife mostly) to move to LA. That’s a long list of crap to deal with.

Then comes the second half of the season. The new Real Madrid manager, Fabio Capello, looks to Beckham (after having no other options) to help revive the team after its annual dead spell. And to the surprise of Capello, he did. Thankfully, Beckham and the rest of the Real Madrid team are in top form and for the first time in years it looks like they might actually be within touching distance of the league trophy. Now, Beckham is vital in the Real Madrid formation. Now, Steve “Asshat” McClaren has brought back Becks to the England squad.

I just can’t help but wonder how different things would be if this half of the season was shifted to the first. If he was given a chance by Capello from the beginning. He might have still been in Real Madrid in future seasons. He was happy in Madrid and loved to play in the Spanish league. If everything was fine (still being on the England team and being first choice in Real Madrid) he wouldn’t have succumbed to his wife’s wishes and that huge offer that easily.

Anyway, I’m happy that these last weeks won’t be the last we see of David Beckham. I’m also happy that Steve “Asshat” McClaren’s days appear to be numbered. I don’t know how I’m feeling about Capello. The good form Real Madrid has been experiencing is 2% his fault. The team just found a vibe they all feel and stuck to it.

Tonight’s game is against Deportivo and, as always, I won’t be expecting a win because I’ve had my hopes and spirit shot down so many times in the last four years so I’ll be watching the game with no feeling until the 90 minute whistle blows. We are currently in tied with Barcelona in first place (Madrid is ahead based on number of games won). They have a game tonight as well against eighth place Getafe. I predict 1-0 for Barcelona. I’ll be hoping for at least draw but a win won’t be too bad as long as Real Madrid win as well.

Good luck Real Madrid.
Good luck Getafe.
Good luck Becks. You are THE man.
