Capello ‘admits’ Beckham Mistake

Posted: May 31st, 2007 | Filed under: Sports | 3 Comments »

Fabio Capello has admitted he was wrong to let David Beckham leave Real Madrid, according to former New York Cosmos star Giorgio Chinaglia.

Beckham turned down the offer of a new Real Madrid deal in January, deciding instead to sign a lucrative contract with Los Angeles Galaxy.

Capello accepted Beckham’s choice but told him at the time he would not play for Real during his last few months with the club.

Beckham has since produced a string of impressive performances and Chinaglia claims Capello now regrets his decision.

Former Italy striker Chinaglia, who is the North American Soccer League’s record scorer, told talkSPORT: “You cannot forget what Beckham has done for Real Madrid this year. He’s been brilliant, unbelievable.

“I phone Fabio Capello, I speak to him about once a week. He said ‘Giorgio, you can’t believe this kid; the turnaround around he’s done. We made a big mistake with this player’.

“I said ‘you all sure did. It’s a shame you’re going to lose a player like that to the United States and not see him again in Europe’.

Beckham’s good form has seen him rewarded with a recall to the England squad and Chinaglia feels his move to America was perhaps a year or two premature.

“I think it’s too soon for him. This season he’s played brilliantly for Real Madrid, especially after Christmas,” he said.

“I think Real Madrid are going to win La Liga, he’s been recalled for England and, on top of that, the Galaxy team are not a good side. I think it’s a shame.”

Chinaglia also believes Beckham could suffer physically in Major League Soccer.

He explained: “The pace is slow. Technically they are not good so he’s going to have a hard time.

“But if you play against somebody who doesn’t know, he’s going to hurt you because he doesn’t know how to play soccer.

“Unfortunately, that’s the bottom line here.”

I just can’t get over this issue. I have no words..

Becks Not Retired Yet!

Posted: May 26th, 2007 | Filed under: Sports | 5 Comments »

I thought the end of this season will be the sad retirement of one of the most talented players in history (the MLS is a joke so yes, I consider it retirement). Sad because 2006 sucked for David Beckham what with another dissappointing season with Real Madrid, an embarrasing World Cup showing, the stepping down as England national team captain, getting booted off the national team by the new manager, spending the first half of the new season warming the Real Madrid bench and finally being pressured (by his wife mostly) to move to LA. That’s a long list of crap to deal with.

Then comes the second half of the season. The new Real Madrid manager, Fabio Capello, looks to Beckham (after having no other options) to help revive the team after its annual dead spell. And to the surprise of Capello, he did. Thankfully, Beckham and the rest of the Real Madrid team are in top form and for the first time in years it looks like they might actually be within touching distance of the league trophy. Now, Beckham is vital in the Real Madrid formation. Now, Steve “Asshat” McClaren has brought back Becks to the England squad.

I just can’t help but wonder how different things would be if this half of the season was shifted to the first. If he was given a chance by Capello from the beginning. He might have still been in Real Madrid in future seasons. He was happy in Madrid and loved to play in the Spanish league. If everything was fine (still being on the England team and being first choice in Real Madrid) he wouldn’t have succumbed to his wife’s wishes and that huge offer that easily.

Anyway, I’m happy that these last weeks won’t be the last we see of David Beckham. I’m also happy that Steve “Asshat” McClaren’s days appear to be numbered. I don’t know how I’m feeling about Capello. The good form Real Madrid has been experiencing is 2% his fault. The team just found a vibe they all feel and stuck to it.

Tonight’s game is against Deportivo and, as always, I won’t be expecting a win because I’ve had my hopes and spirit shot down so many times in the last four years so I’ll be watching the game with no feeling until the 90 minute whistle blows. We are currently in tied with Barcelona in first place (Madrid is ahead based on number of games won). They have a game tonight as well against eighth place Getafe. I predict 1-0 for Barcelona. I’ll be hoping for at least draw but a win won’t be too bad as long as Real Madrid win as well.

Good luck Real Madrid.
Good luck Getafe.
Good luck Becks. You are THE man.

This is my favorite iPod commercial so far. I love the song, the dancers (and kid playing football) and the colors of the video.

Suicide

I was just watching an episode of Miami Ink where some girl had a tattoo done to comemorate her younger brother who had comitted suicide at age 15.

“I’m just happy to know that he’s in a place where there’s no pressure and no pain.”

HAH! NO PAIN! If that were true then everyone would take the first chance at popping themselves! I actually laughed out loud. All that girl can ask is for God to have mecry on his soul. I’m not preaching or anything but aside from suicide being a sin in the three major religion, I am obviously against it. I think that there are no greater cowards than those that take their own life. They don’t even deserve any sympathy. If any of my friends or family (God forbid) chose to go down that road, I would feel nothing but anger towards them. Hopefully I won’t go through anything like that.

In a related issue, what the west calls “suicide bombers” is not the same thing. Whatever their beliefs and opinions are, they are sacrificing their lives believing that they will make things better for others. It doesn’t matter how much better or for how many people. People who commit suicide usually cause great pain and guilt for their friends and family. It’s almost as if they are transfering all their issues that caused them to be suicidal to those people.

There is always a way out of it. For those of you who have lost someone through suicide, I’m sorry for your loss.

The Scribe

Seated Scribe. From the tomb of Kai, Saqqara. Dynasty 5, ca. 2494-2345 BCE. Old Kingdom. Painted Limestone.

This is a sculpture that was placed in the tomb of Kai. This is not an idealized sculpture, due to the not so favorable physique. So this is what Kai’s scribe most probably looked like in real life. Many pharohs had their servants with them (whether respresentations or the actual servants themselves) to have them continue to be their servants in the afterlife.

What’s most interesting about this piece is the likeness to a certain Egyption actor. Could this scribe of Kai actually be his ancestor?! Anything is possible.

If you’re wondering who I am hinting at, then you probably won’t guess right. Because the resemblance is unbelievably obvious.

So whose ancestor could this scribe be?

I’m sure many of you remember and love this show. I found torrents of the show in English but I’m trying to find it in Arabic. I thought the commentary was hilarious. Ofcourse I don’t think I’ll find it so my request is to you guys.

Does anyone have any friends in Kuwait TV? I’m sure they still have them in their archives. The show ran for only 3 years. I don’t know if it’s legal or not but it would be amazing if I could get the whole show.
