Did you know that in 1970 there were 6000 languages spoken... a language dies every 2 weeks after the last elder who knows that language and culture dies. There are tons of civilizations around this earth.. and yet we still are able to ruin their enviroments with our mining and industry. Anyway, we know that we are in the first samaa2/sky; earth is a part of this first samaa2. In the last portion or so of the night (about an hour before 9alaat al-Fajr, I suppose), Allah (SWT) descends to the first samaa2--meaning to where we are--and this is how we know that we are in fact living under the first samaa2. Science today has figured out that there are numerous other galaxies above ours. This doesn't contradict the Qur'an at all; we have know knowledge of what counts as 1 samaa2; all we know is that there are seven (and seven 'ardhs,' too).
