The Other Species
Almighty God created this Earth and the rest of the eight planets (Pluto is still a planet in my book). He created the Sun and our galaxy. The endless size of the whole universe is so vast that the human mind could not possiblly even come close to even imagining what other galaxies, stars and solar systems lie beyond what our most powerful lenses are capable of seeing.
With all this imense space, why is little planet Earth the only one with a sustained biosphere? Why do many people resist the idea of other intelligent life living in other galaxies? The Human Race is still young. The World Wide Web has just been made available to us just decades and the cure for AIDS has not been discovered yet. We are still far from the technologies of Star Trek and the weaponry of Star Wars.
I believe that there is a great possibility of other civilizations out there. I’m not talking about little green aliens with pasty skin and huge eyes. But maybe even human beings. They could either be advanced or have just come out of an ice age and have not reached our level of development just yet.
I don’t know what the Koran says about this issue but I plan to research this some more when I have free time.
We cannot possibly be alone.

Al-Salaam 3alaikum–
In terms of other galaxies and stuff, the Qur’an mentions that Allah (SWT) created 7 samawaat, and this is often translated as “seven heavens,” but I think the correct English wording would be ’skies.’ Anyway, we know that we are in the first samaa2/sky; earth is a part of this first samaa2. In the last portion or so of the night (about an hour before 9alaat al-Fajr, I suppose), Allah (SWT) descends to the first samaa2–meaning to where we are–and this is how we know that we are in fact living under the first samaa2.
Science today has figured out that there are numerous other galaxies above ours. This doesn’t contradict the Qur’an at all; we have know knowledge of what counts as 1 samaa2; all we know is that there are seven (and seven ‘ardhs,’ too). I hope this was helpful, and InshaAllah your search for more knowledge will be ever fruitful.
Al-Salaam 3alaikum.

I meant to say “we have no* knowledge of what counts as…”

Hi,
I do share your view that there must be something else out there. But what if there is… I don’t think it would change things much. On earth there are 3,000 spoken languages.. Did you know that in 1970 there were 6000 languages spoken… a language dies every 2 weeks after the last elder who knows that language and culture dies. There are tons of civilizations around this earth.. and yet we still are able to ruin their enviroments with our mining and industry.
What I am trying to get at is this… there is tons more here.. and we still haven’t shown it any appreciation. What’s the point of finding someone else out there…
Watch this.. and you’ll know what I mean.
There is more here on earth.. than space can ever offer us in the next 100 years.

MG thanks for the video.. it was a really interesting indepth view of how much of civilizations we still dont know about.. but there is a point in finding what is beyond the solar system.. the least that could happen is that we can find things we weren’t even looking for..
