Shut the door...

1st Ever Wendy’s to Shut Down

Posted: February 24th, 2007 | Filed under: Kuwait, World | 7 Comments »

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Wendy’s International Inc. said Friday that sagging sales will force it to close the restaurant where the nation’s third-largest hamburger chain began in 1969. The iconic restaurant, filled with memorabilia and photographs of the late Wendy’s founder, Dave Thomas, will close March 2.

I guess that’s sad news. But they could have just kept the place and have it running as a restaurant but as a little museum. Afterall the franchise can afford it.

I remember when we had a Wendy’s in Kuwait a while back and was pissed when they put Burger King instead. I missed the baked potatoe and the square burgers. I didn’t even ask around to see if there was another Wendy’s in Kuwait. I don’t know why though. Is there?

I also remember Arby’s. I think I was 11 or 12 when that left too.

What about Dairy Queen?

Microsoft Windows Vista is a ripoff of Mac OS X???

Hahah. This in an old video. It has the audio of Vista being introduced or presented, and the video of someone showing that OS X already has whatever is being introduced about Vista. Amazing.

Well, I think it’s only fair to let Vista defend this popular statement.

Visiting Kuwait

Posted: February 18th, 2007 | Filed under: Campus, Kuwait, My Life | 13 Comments »

I invited my American friend to come home with me to Kuwait and Egypt for the two weeks I will have off this summer. She was totally up for it and was super excited because her dad said OK when she thought he wouldn’t. The fact that I will be with her the whole time on the way and back was what made him definately agree. Him and her grandma are really excited about it.

I was so happy and I was planning lots of stuff in my head for us to do in Kuwait and Egypt. She really wants to go gizzing.

But then when word of the whole thing reached her whole family, she’s been getting negative feedback. Especially from her mom. Her mom is another story by itself. My friend describes her as “psycho” and she’s not even kidding. And I have met her mom too. So I know what she’s talking about. Ever since her parents got divorced, my friend hasn’t been going along too well with her mom. And what her has been telling her about this trip is really pissing my friend off.

Her mom has been telling her ridiculous things that she says she got from the internet. Things like getting arrested for taking photographs, being kidnapped, beat up and some other really crazy stuff. I keep telling my friend that all that is ridiculous and I know she believes me and is always yelling at her mom for making up these stupid things.

Her dad and grandma are still super excited for the whole thing and her boyfriend is also backing me up. She has nothing to worry about. I understand all the concern but claiming things that are untrue is really making me furious. This would be her first time traveling overseas and could possibly be a once in a lifetime chance for her. I really don’t want her to pass it for ridiculous reasons.

I’ve been trying to look online for anything that would ease her and her mom’s mind but I can’t find anything. I’ve been showing her pictures but I don’t think that’s enough.

In the end, if things don’t work out, I won’t be upset with her. I will be dissapointed in myself. She knows I would never do anything that would be even remotely harmful, unsafe or dangerous. But I can’t help but feel that she doesn’t seem as excited as she used to be.

US Troops Kidnap Six-Year-Old Girl

Posted: February 17th, 2007 | Filed under: Politics, World | 5 Comments »

In a dispatch posted at 5:53pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US forces kidnapped a six-year-old elementary school girl, Maryam ‘Abdallah, as she came out of her school in al-Habbaniyah, 90km west of Baghdad, on Thursday. Reports from al-Habbaniyah indicated that Maryam is the daughter of Shaykh ‘Abdallah al-Mar‘awi, a Resistance commander, and the abduction was apparently with the aim of pressuring the girl’s father to surrender.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported the girls uncle as saying that US troops abducted the girl in order to pressure her father into giving himself up, after they had failed to capture or kill him.

The uncle told Mafkarat al-Islam that Maryam’s mother had a heart attack and was rushed to the al-Fallujah General Hospital in an ambulance after people brought her her daughter’s school bag and one of her daughter’s sandals following the kidnapping.

Maryam, a first grade student was abducted by US troops as she left her school. The American soldiers put her in a Humvee and killed four youths who tried to free the little girl from their clutches.

The US forces just keep getting lower and lower. There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t hear of the shameful acts of the troops in Iraq.

What surprises me is that this story hasn’t been getting the proper media attention it deserves. All it got so far are mentions on TV by various new channels like CNN and such. Most of what is written about the war is the current death toll of the “heroes” which was 3,133 on the 14th of this month. Not many point out the reported Iraqi death toll is at least 56,468 or at the most 62,189. [source]

Back to the story, it is said here that after knowing of her daughter’s kidnapping, the mother was taken to the hospital due to a heart attack. God knows what is or will happen to the little girl. Rape and death is what came up in my mind first.

The killing of the four youths or teenagers who were trying to rescue her was totally shocking. They probably had just come out of school too which means they were probably unarmed.

The whole thing is just disgusting. This war was supposed to be an in-and-out operation to remove any “weapons of mass destruction” that Iraq had. None were found and the forces are still there. Leaving the country in total destruction and chaos was not an option in 2003 so that is why they are still there. They are trying to clean up their stupid mess. I won’t discuss the hidden agenda for oil but it doesn’t look like they will be leaving soon.

This war is approaching the four-year mark.

I hope the little girl comes back home to her family safe and unharmed really soon. At least the four teenagers died as martyrs and will be rewarded for their efforts inshalla.

Virgin No. 8: Can we cuddle first?
Virgin No. 9: It was a garlic-and-onion pizza. Why?
Virgin No. 10: . . . so I see Heath, and he goes, ‘Like, what are you doing here?,’ and I go, ‘I’m hangin’ out,’ so he goes, ‘Like, what?’ . . .

The Day After Valentine’s Day

Posted: February 15th, 2007 | Filed under: Campus, Music, My Life, Silly, TV/Movies | 4 Comments »

For those who had a happy Valentine’s Day with their loved one, I dedicate the following song:

So This Is Love by Ilene Woods in Cinderella. [1.4 MB]

For those who didn’t have a happy day yesterday:

Suicide Is Painless by Johnny Mandel. [3.3 MB]

I’M JUST KIDDING!! But seriously listen to it, it’s a good song.

I had an AWESOME Valentine’s Day. But it had nothing to do with love! All classes were canceled until noon! And then my 1pm class professor emailed us and decided to cancel class too. So that meant I got to not go to any of my classes today! PLUS I had an exam today that got postponed to Monday! Which was great because I needed more time to study anyway. It was like God literally answered my prayers. Al 7amdullila.

So did you guys have a good Feb.14th?
