Ramos. Raul. Robinho. Ruud.

Real Madrid beat Steaua Bucuresti 4-1 in today’s Champions League group match held in Romania.

No one can deny that it was a beautiful game. Fans or non-fans I think will agree that Real Madrid played very well in the first half. They were passing gracefully and had many chances on goal. Roberto Carlos hasn’t been in this form since the 2003-2004 season in my opinion. And his teaming up with Robinho on the left was perfect. They were in complete control together. The defense was also dramatically improved on with Canavaro, Sergio Ramos, Emerson and Helguera dominating their half of the pitch. Not to mention Casillas who also delivered fantastic saves. The second half cooled down a bit with a goal against Madrid due to a clumsy moment in defense. But things fired up again in the last 20 minutes of the game thanks to an impressive goal from Robinho and genius chipping goal by Ruud. That goal could be the best goal Ruud has scored for Madrid yet.

Like the match analyzer said, this is the best Madrid has played as a team since 2003 when they last won the La Liga trophy. One could argue that Steaua Bucuresti is a weak team so Madrid’s performance shouldn’t be rated to highly, but that doesn’t matter. They were passing and they were aware of each other.

I really wish Ronaldo would have scored a 5th goal, then the title of this post would be 5R. Too bad he is facing suspension and will not be playing this weekend against Barcelona.

This win is great timing for Madrid, who suffered an embarrassing loss to Getafe over the weekend. Now, they have more confidence and can go back home to the Bernabeu feeling happy and eager to beat their greatest rival Barcelona. Tomorrow’s Champions League match, Chelsea vs. Barcelona will decide the mood Barca will have when entering the Bernabeu.

On a personal note, although Madrid is my favorite team in the world, I believe that Barcelona at the momment is in better shape. So, my predictions for Sunday’s derby is 2-1 for Barcelona.

CSKA Moscow are uefa cup winners in 2004/05 :)
they are backed (but not owned, becaue uefa lets u own one club at a time) by Abramovich, whose oil company is the shirt sponsors of the club through a insanely huge deal.
    chelsea also loan them players.
