Little Referee for Big Game

This is not a rant about how sucky Real Madrid or Barcelona are, this post is completely about the referee of that game. So I would appreciate it if the comments are not about the bashing of either teams, but I welcome the bashing of the referee.

I’m sure many of you saw the game on Saturday. I however did not. All I did was read tons of articles about the game afterwards. At first I did not think it was strange that the articles were about the bad performance of the referee but I got suspicious when more and more articles were leaving just a paragraph or two about the actual teams that played! It was an “El Classico” game! Yet the biggest issue was about the referee.

The biggest points to take note of are the harsh red card for Roberto Carlos, the unjust penalty and another penalty not given. You might think I’m biased towards Real Madrid (I am a little bit) but other Barcelonian supporters have told me so as well. The penalty given to Barcelona in the 22nd minute was said to have been “invisible” by reports. The sending off of Roberto Carlos was considered to hard since his first yellow was for protesting a foul (the Barca fans back me up on this one). And many say that Ronaldo should have been rewarded the penalty in the second half. RealMadrid.com (this obviously gonna be slanted) says that Medina Cantalejo “called every possible foul against Madrid” and that Barca played with two more players for most the match, the starting eleven plus the referee. I really wish I could have seen the game. But the all the accounts couldn’t be too wrong.

Not many articles talked too much about the quality of play, so I really don’t know how the players played.

Bottom line, Medina Cantalejo apparently did a terrible job. He was a candidate for refereeing in the World Caup this summer, but I guess he can kiss Germany goodbye.

P.S. The game ended in a draw. 1-1.

    I didn’t watch it either 7asafa.
Well there goes the chance for Real Madrid to redeem themselves at the time being.

Keep the soccer entries flowing. I should start some too.
