Florentino Pérez has announced his resignition late yesterday from his position as Real Madrid Football Club President.
Finally! Now the club can find someone new that would focus on the the quality of the team and their ability to play effectively and consistantly, rather than their ability to bring in the big bucks by using their celebrity. Now the club can also find a head coach that will actually stay longer than 6 months with the players. It is ridiculous that Real Madrid have been with 5 different coaches in 3 seasons.
It is ridiculous that Pérez let the fantastic Vicente Del Bosque go after 4 loyal seasons serving the team. I think that was the biggest mistake Pérez ever did in his life. He let him go a day after Real Madrid won their 29th league title in the 2002-2003 season! And what’s worse is that he was replaced by Manchester United’s assistant coach, Carlos Queroz, just so that the new signing, David Beckham, would feel more comfortable in Madrid. In Del Bosque’s 4 years at Madrid, he lead the team to 2 league titles, 2 European Cups, 2 Super Cups, and a World Club Cup.
Real Madrid have been scouting for yet another new coach since Luxembourgo was sacked and Real Madrid’s second team head coach, Juan Ramón López Caro, took over for the remainder of this season. I think that since Pérez won’t be around, maybe the club officials should try to convince Del Bosque to come back. However, that is highly unlikely.
Oh well, it doesn’t look like Madrid will be winning anything this year. But I’ll be optimistic for next season what with a new president and a new coach.
Hala Madrid!

Kuwait releases 495 prisoners to commemorate national holidays
KUWAIT CITY - Kuwait released 495 inmates from its Central Prison on Saturday to commemorate the country’s National and Liberation Day holidays, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
The inmates were set free under a decree issued by Amir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Sabah, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior carried by KUNA. The decree also reduced jail sentences for another 194 prisoners.
The ministry statement did not itemize the nationalities of those granted the amnesty, nor did it specify what crimes the prisoners had committed. Such pardons traditionally do not apply to those convicted of murder, rape, or drug trafficking.
Kuwait’s National and Liberation Day holidays fall on February 25 and 26.

That’s just fantastic. It’s the holidays so let’s release criminals back into society! Does anyone else think this is just too ridiculous? I know these might not be hard criminals but they still are criminals all the same. They are criminals who deserve their punishment. So why were they released?! I’m sorry, but I just can’t understand it. Criminals don’t deserve sympathy and that is what they have been given.
One thing I would have done instead, since it is the national holidays, is given all the deserving Bedouns their Kuwaiti nationalities.
Were the good people of our society rewarded or given gifts? This is a genuine question; I’m not being sarcastic.

The Kuwait National Assembly amended article 35 by changing voter eligibility for the next elections! This means that if you are under 21 now, but will be 21 by summer of 2007 you CAN register. This is fantastic news! More people would be registered to vote, including me.

My boy, Jake Gyllenhaal, won his deserved Best Supporting Actor Award for his work in the movie Brokeback Mountain last night at the BAFTA Awards. Hopefully, this is a little hint to who might win the Academy Award in that same category on March 5th.

Watch this.
A conspiracy theory claiming that 9-11 was self-inflicted. The facts are highly convincing and pretty shocking; it makes sense. Watch the whole video. It’s over an hour long but so worth it.

Meet GOLEO VI. The official FIFA World Cup 2006 mascot. All I can say is: what were they thinking? Oh yeah, and let’s not forget Pille the talking football. This mascot is so LAME! I thought it was supposed to be a reflection on Germany and its culture and society, etc. Do they have lions in Germany? I don’t really know but I’m guessing they don’t. A lot of money is spent on the planning and creating these mascots and I just can’t believe they went with this choice. Apparently, the costume was made by the same company that makes the Muppets. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the Muppets (I have the first season of their show on DVD.. haha). But come on! I think the little smilies in the official logo make a better mascot. GOLEO VI and Pille just don’t make any sense.
