Brokeback Mountain

I just came back from watching this movie. I seem to have a habit of giving movies high scores (according to my standards) but before I go on, I would like to say I only watch movies that have been recognized to be good.
Brokeback Mountain is a movie I’ve been wanting to see since I first heard about it about a year ago. I was interested in the story and I am a big fan of Jake Gyllenhaal, who is starring opposite Heath Ledger. Many who haven’t seen it yet know the movie as “the movie about the gay cowboys.” But seriously, it’s more than that. I know that sounds corny but I just can’t explain it. The story is beautiful, tragic, hopeless and hopefull. I don’t know. I think I’m still overwhelmed by the performances of Heath and Jake.
Forever is a strong word. Which is why until now I always thought it existed only for fairytales.
Go see it. This movie is now officially one of my favorite movies, with the likes of Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption and Cidade de Deus.
This is not a “gay movie” or a movie for “gays.” It is a love story. Nothing more, nothing less.
P.S. Misguided, trust me. This movie really deserves the 5 stars.

baaa-yes, a lot more to it than meets the eye it is an attempt to evoke feelings of sympathy towards homosexuality.
i have gay friends that i love to bits, … ba-a-but i do not believe that their sexual choice is ethical or sinless.

i dont think that was the purpose of the movie.. i dont think homosexuality was even a focus at all.. it is a bond between two people and that bond has a conflict or a problem that keeps them from each other.. that problem or conflict can be found in all types of relationships.. straight, gay, parent-child, brother-sister, etc.. so this movie just happens to portray one of these.. homosexuality was in it, but it wasnt the focus..
thanks for ur input.. and i too have gay friends

Isn’t it by the same author of ‘The Shipping News’ ? I heard it’s great. Both the book & the film, I mean. Never read/watched anything by her - Annie Proulx or what’s-her-face-called - but I’ve read & watched ‘A Home at the End of the World’ (starring Collin Farrel), by Michael Cunningham (author of The Hours), who also happens to write about homosexuality. He actually is homosexual. I was disgusted by the idea of reading something by a gay author, but it turned out to be a good book. Film’s almost as good as it.
As you said, it’s hard to explain. Read/watch it. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
