This was my first Um Kalthoum song. I first heard about 3 seconds of the melody on an ad for Zen TV on Zen TV before it turned into a crappy channel maybe 3 years ago. I was dying to know what song that was from and it was driving me crazy. So I hummed to my mom to see if she had any idea. She did! She also said that Abdul Wahab composed that song. At that time I didn’t know it meant something. So I eagerly downloaded the song and was surprised it was almost an hour long! But it was amazing. The first time I heard it.. wow. The music was fantastic. So I went back to my mom and asked her if this Abdul Wahab guy composed all of her songs and who else did he compose for. And after a few times of sitting down and really listening to it, I now appreciate the words as much as I do the music. So I basically fell into the Um Kalthoum pool and the rest is history. Another Um Kalthoum song I adore because of the music is Alf Leila Wa Leila.
And then when I first started university, a guy introduced me to Abdul Wahab as a singer and formally introduced me to Fairouz as well. Before him, the only Fairouz song I had in my collection was Nasam ‘aleina Al Hawa.

Oh that song is just amazing, never failed to move me. Thank you for posting it here, will download it as soon as I reach the office. I was thinking of ripping the whole cassette. (A WHOLE CASSETE, god bless her) this song is almost an hour long yet it got more radio play than all these 3 minutes one hit wonders we see everyday.

Oh, Snookie…
This is my absolute favorite Um Kalthoom song. It moves me to tears always. It is so rich, so powerful, so emotional. The words are so stirring. And thanks very much for posting the download. I had an incomplete version that I was downloading through one of the file-sharing softwares, but never got it all.
“Alf Leila wa Leila” is also another favorite…

Dear snookie,
Firstly, Love the song. I had this habit of picking up a song for a singer e.g Um kalthoom listening to it all day and then go the next day, get another tape e.g Enta 3omree listening to it all day, then the next day I would get another for her etc. till I heard them all. OMG!
then… I would hear a song for say… m7amad 3bdu… and I would do the same… an entire month of “Bu-3abdu”… etc etc.
Secondly, um… err.. um I forgot what my second point was… I leave a comment when I remember sorry ( what’s the emoticon for blushing cuz I am embarrased now!!)
WAIT I remembered… don’t post again for a bit… cuz the next time it’ll be like this is 222… and thats a long time. That’s like another 111 posts… so enjoy this moment for a bit.

Abdulwahab Mosh anna labky , Agharo men Qalbi , Modhnaka Jafaho , Modhnaka 3allama al Qalam , you should listen to Fareed al attrash Rabee3 , Albi o Mefta7o and alot of great songs.. 3endech Fayza a7mad i highly recommend Ya mesafir o Sayyebni.
