A Coy Decoy

In this Merrie Melodies - Bob Clampett cartoon from 1941, Daffy Duck gets into his usual trouble while fooling around in a bookstore. The part that got this cartoon to be banned is when Daffy enters Black Beauty and comes out riding “Black Beauty” or, as you can see from the image above, an African American woman complete with the stereotypical fat lips, polka-dot head rag, and the chubby body. Very shocking.

Snookie-
Well, it isn’t hard to see why this cartoon was banned! At least “Black beauty” pitched the offensive Daffy off her back finally…
I love these cartoons of yours
MsB, who requests more of the same please…

There’s also a black lady in some of the classic Tom & Jerry episodes but I guess it wasn’t offensive because they didn’t call her “beauty” :/

Funny but truly dated. The Black Beauty bit was a throwaway gag. Not a typical Daffy joke, so it is more like a groaner or roll the eyes.
