I love this song. It is undeniably my favorite Arabic song of all time. I fell in love with it when I heard the jalsa version of it. For those of you who do not know what a jalsa is, it is basically a live performance of the song done with classical, usually non-electric instruments and the setting of the performance is in the classical Khleeji (Gulf) style. Complete with traditional clothes, furniture, etc. A really raw and very very passionate music session.
I was told by a friend of mine that this song has a story behind it. And that this pain that seeps through Nawal’s voice is true and very real. The story (or rumor) says that Nawal once had a fiance but then he left her for someone else, which crushed and scarred her very deeply.
My understanding of this song, describes a woman so sacrificial of love that it actually hurts listening to her story. She sacrifices her dignity, her physical health, her social health for someone who appears to be ignorant and blind to her feelings. Very sad indeed.

This is one of my favorite Nawal songs and I’m a big fan of her voice…although she really disappointed me with her last album..it sucked royally!

How do you pronounce squiggly word 4?
I like it, sounds pretty. Not sure everything that’s being said though. I like the jalsa version better personally.

squiggly word 4 is the same as squiggly word 1.. tebarra (emphasize when you rear the second “r”.. kind of like an accent mark in spanish)

its so sad walla..
i heard the song was written about an old woman who dedicated her whole life to her son and in the end he threw her in an old folk’s home. but i don’t know. this way or that, this is my fave Nawal song EVER!

I adore this song. Some how I didn’t really pay attention to it but when i heard the jalsa version I fell in love with it. I can’t stop singing it when i’m alone lol. Even when i’m with my friends i sometimes forget myself and start singing it.
There are also other songs that i love that belongs to Nawal. ‘Ya msabber il maw’ood’ ‘Legait roohi’ ‘Ahawel’ ‘Lo reht anni’
