Area 77

After spending a couple of weeks in awe at ArtFiNaLe’s artworks (mashalla), I have decided to try to paint. I have grown constantly irritated at how childish my cartoons are looking. Doodling doesn’t have the same stress-relieving effects anymore. I’ll keep trying to improve but I want to try new things. I want to try realism in drawing and use the cross-hatching technique. I want to introduce color in my creations and try oil and acrylic paint. I wan’t to go back to watercolor. Yes, shockingly, I did use to have watercolor painting talents although I don’t know if I still have them. Last time I did a watercolor painting was five years ago in my tenth grade art class. It was the assignment of the month and I decided to copy off of a photograph I saw in a magazine. My teacher chose a few of the best ones and hung them up on a bulletin board in one of the school hallways. After a day of being displayed, all that remained were the pieces of the corners of the background sheet that acted as a frame. You see, it was 2001 and the 9/11 event had been the top story and the photograph that was in the magazine was of the twin towers and an american flag over looking the Hudson. I felt it was a nice thing to do. I don’t know if it pissed of anyone but I do know that it traumatized me enough to make me not want to have anything to do with watercolor or any other type of paint. I had felt violated and from that day, I refused to have any of my artworks displayed in the hallway where there was no supervision. So, my art teacher of my last two years of highschool decided to display them in the library instead (where they were cencored but thats another story). Now here I am four years later and I am eager to try again.

My first attempt will be an oil on canvas portrait of my older sister. I’m guessing it will take me about a month to do it. But who knows. I don’t care how long it takes, theres no deadline and I won’t be working for a grade. Haha.
