Yes she was right when reporting him to the police.

But don't you thing that her main purpose of that is fame... She has been interviewed in many news papers and TV programs.

In USA and UK wives have been beaten to death. Still they didn't go in every TV channel and news paper to be interviewed.

She was beaten by her husband in an awful way... but it is not true that most Arab ladies have the same problem and it is not true as Opera announced it "You are lucky to be an American women". God knows that we are living much better than they are. We don't have high rates of drug addict moms as they do and no high rates of suicide as they do.

nah, i dont think that was her purpose.. she was already "famous" (i dont know to what level) because she is a tv reporter.. so its natural for the media to interview her rather than regular citizens.. so that people would go "ooh! i know her! she's that lady from tv. look what happened to her!"

only the extreme cases cases go to the meadia and thats very understandable.. but if a person already in the public eye is abused, no matter how strong (usually the person isn't able to work), it will be reported to the media..

i totally agree with ur last paragraph, but she said it in what episode? i think i heard it in an episode about voting.. she was trying to get the women in the audience to register..

and i think she already knows that we live better then they do.. lol.. especially after zain al-sabah told her so.. :P did u see that episode? it was nice..

Dear Snookie,

Like you.. stories of violence against women bothers me. But even more, I do feel that there are other issues like harassment of women in our society.

Allow me to quote something I wrote a while back on my blog;

"We have slowly come to a realization, as a society, that women can lead as well. Women have come along way from their traditional roles as home-keepers. They are much more than that. In our Universities they head departments, teach and produce graduates for our workforce. In the private sector they hold leadership roles and are a productive force in our economy.

There is much more work to do. Women are still harassed in our society. Laws do not do enough to protect them from domestic violence. Harassing women in malls and streets of Kuwait has become so common…it’s thought to be just part of going out. There are still ongoing issues regarding granting nationality to sons and daughters of Kuwaiti Mothers.

Change occurs slowly… but it occurs nonetheless. Justice lies in the common consciousness of our society, and is far greater power than all the “conservative” rhetoric. Rhetoric like that has been heard before. It’s been used to keep slaves in bondage and burn “witches” to the stake.

But, I am happy for my country. I can see the day when harassment is no longer tolerated and violence punished. By granting equal access to governance and equality in our justice system, we will elevate Women’s status in society. That is ultimately what I want for my daughter.

Respect."

Your buddy,

Misguided

i'm shocked to say that i never thought of that issue before.. i guess you're right.. we now see that harrassment as the norm in our society.. i have, however, thought of the granting children of kuwaiti mothers nationality and i believe that it will be passed in due time inshalla.. i feel everything can and will be fixed or made better.. its just a matter of how long it will take.. voting rights took 30+ years (right?) so who knows how long the other things will take.. but with women and men who support women's issues, it will be a faster and more acheivable process inshalla.. im optimistic, and i too hope your daughter will be treated with the same equality and respect as men have in all branches of her life.. :)

Dear Snookie,

I just wanna clarify.. i really don't have a daughter.. just for your info. LOL!

I just wanted to illustrate a point. If i do get a daughter... wich I hope I do..then I do not wish for her to be harrassed and if she chooses to marry a non-kuwaiti. Well it shouldn't make a difference really. It provides her kids with the security they deserve in the country they grew up in.

Finally, I am starting to really like your blog. Sorry about the long-winded comment. You do not have to respond really. Let's move on to your next post .... shall we

Truly,
Misguided
