I’ll be going on a little vacation afterwords so next time I post I will be in Kuwait.
Caio!
I was browsing through one of my favorite websites, National Geographic Photography, when I wondered if I could find the famous photograph of the “afgan girl.”
I did, and there was also a short article that tells the story of her childhood and what her life as an adult is like now. You can also see photographs of what she looks like today.
Taken in 1984, this is undeniably the Mona Lisa of photography. Apart from Sharbat Gula’s natural dark beauty, the eyes (mashalla) are the most striking I have ever seen in my life. You can’t help but stare. In them I see horror, sadness, and grief.
US President George Bush, Vice-President Dick Cheney and Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld were all named after three new species of beetles last week by two American scientists. Seems like a nice thing to do for your leaders. But these were slime mold beetles! Gross things I’m sure! Hahaha! They named them Agathidium bushi, Agathidium cheneyi and Agathidium rumsfeldi.
Although it looks like they were mocking them, they were actually honoring them. Very weird.
Other names for the other 62 new beetle species included the Greek words for “ugly” and “having prominent teeth”, Darth Vader, and the scientists’ wives!
If my husband names an ugly mold-eating beetle after me, I’d be ticked off!
I watched this movie a few days ago on TV and I thought to myself: Of all the movies that Jennifer Lopez has made, why is this one one of the less underated ones? I admit that she isn’t much of an actress, but this performance surely deserved recognition. Even my mother, one of the toughest movie critics I know, liked this movie after I struggled to make her agree to watch it (she HATES Jennifer Lopez). Above everything, the story is amazing. Jennifer Lopez’s character is married to a cheating wife-beater. She puts up with it for a while but then decides to take their daughter and runaway. I don’t want to spoil the movie to those who haven’t seen it, but it’s fascinating how careful and ready she is if he ever happened to track them down.
My mother had always said “The first time it’s his fault. The second time, it’s yours.” And after I watched the movie I understood what she meant. Wife-beaters NEVER change. Even if they go to therapy or support groups, the urge is always lingering close by. Which is why after the first time, it’s your sign to leave.
Unfortunately, we live in a society that doesn’t stress this theory. Women aren’t encouraged to speak up if they’re being wronged. Instead, many, not all, are told to just live with it for the sake of reputation and to not risk a possible divorce. But if this situation comes across me, i’ll leave. No questions asked. But hopefully, it won’t happen! To me or to any other women out there.
I just got done reading this book for the 5th time. And I doubt it will be the last. The last 2 times were read from the special illustrated edition of the book. What a GREAT addition to add to a great book. You get to actually see the claims on artworks and buildings and other things so you don’t need to doubt things! What a ride. I love little facts and this book as many of you might already know, has a LOT of them. And know I can’t help but picture how the movie is going to be. I can’t wait!
Tom Hanks will be Robert Langdon, Audrey Tautou as Sophie Neveu, and not surprisingly Jean Reno as Captain Bezu Fache! Jean is ALWAYS the French cop! I honestly could not have chosen a better cast myself. Tom Hanks is my favorite leading man of all time and the part of Sophie I imagined being played by either Audrey or Sophie Marceau. Planned to be released in 2006, the movie will be directed by Oscar-winning Ron Howard! This movie is gonna kill everyone at the Academy Awards in 2007. Obviously a lot of pressure on Ron Howard with a whole population of international fans (crazy ones too), but i’m confident he’s gonna do a GREAT job!
I was watching cartoon network late last night, around 4am which is when they show the adult themed cartoons, and some old school ones too. This cartoon that I posted captures of was one about Russian “gremlins” that were causing havoc on a war plane that Hitler was flying. The gremlins spoke in a Russian accent and Hitler in German. A perfectly classic Warner Bros. cartoon. It grabbed my attention because this is pure propaganda. Produced during World War 2, this was shown to children and adults alike. What a great way to help increase the dislike of German and the Nazi regieme. I have to say it served its prpose because the snarly face of Hitler was frightning. I wish Kuwait did the same thing with Sadam during the Gulf War.

I believe that the world should abandon the theory of school and work. Humans currently have about 70-80 years to live and most of it should not be spent doing something you hate and being miserable! Look at it this way. In the first 3 years of your life you dont remember any of it. Well that’s 3 years down the drain. Then comes the years 4-6. The best period ever! All you do is play, sleep 7 times a day, eat, and scream. Many people like me do that during vacations but with the addition of that lingering thought that your days are numbered to going back to the dreary miserable routine. Then comes 7-55. EVERYDAY FOR 48 YEARS you come back from from work/school exhausted and moody. You start counting down retirement, very little are lucky enough to retire in their 40’s but those who retire in their 60’s!! Oh man! What’s the point! You’re already too old to do anything you wanted to do when you were younger and all you do instead is sort your medication for the week and watch the news all day. What’s there to look forward too. Nothing.
I propose a system to be put forth. children start school from 7 until 14. If the kid sucks at school then he or she is out. If the kid doesn’t, they have the CHOICE of either continuing their education (they obviously like to study) and work in the many fields that are open. We can’t have ALL people not working. The world would be in chaos.
You might ask, well how would people get money? Easy: NO MONEY!
There would be no ‘rich/poor’ countries, no stock markets, nothing. Just production. Everyone relies on each other, and those who don’t cooperate recieve concequences. Ofcourse the people that produce the things (food, electronics, medicines, etc.) are good at what they do because they love it and they chose to do it.
Each country would regulate the things their people get based on the family SIZE. Cars, food, toys, leisure products, clothes, everything. All you simply do is request whatever you want.
This is obviously crazy and I know it. But there’s no harm in wishing. I really would like to live in a world like that. Hakuna matata.
If you have any other additions to this system, please comment!
