Vote For Kuwaiti Women’s Voting Rights, March 7

I don’t know about the rest of the women in Kuwait but I know that i’m riled up and am gonna be super excited on March 7th. Which by the way is also my 19th birthday. It would be the greatest birthday present of all if the vote for giving women the right to vote would be passed. It is about time that it does. It’s quite embarrassing that Iraqi and Irani women get to wave they’re purple finger in joy and not the Kuwaiti women in their seemingly advanced society. As I said earlier, I don’t know how the women in Kuwait are feeling at the momment, but my Mom feels indifferent. She thinks that the salaf (Islamic conservatives) will prevail again. However, last time, the difference was by ONE vote. So i’m pretty optimistic that this time around, my above cartoon will expire. I am aware that there have been recent developments in this issue that might harm our chances but frankly I don’t know of them. Hopefully they will be irrelevent on that [possible] historic Monday.

    Hello snookie,

I wanna wish you a Happy Birthday in advance and I do hope you’ll get your birthday gift…

as a Kuwaiti woman I do cross my fingers and wish this time we will get our rights…bas enough is enough…but you know what upsets me snookie is I don’t hear women in Kuwait rallying and voicing out their opinion…as if they gave up and that’s the wrong attitude…

women like you make me happy…keep on fighting sister :)

Happy birthday again…love the drawing and nice blog :)

  2. - snookie - Says:

that is EXACTLY the problem.. back home no one SEEMS to care!

you live overseas as well right? i guess its the people far away that are the ones anxiously waiting..

    anyway, inshalla it passes..

secretley means that some are afraid that others will patronize them on whatever the voted on..

either way it doesnt matter.. but i was kinda hoping we’d knw ON march 7, i guess not..

oh well, maybe next year march 7 will be a historical day!

Love that cartoon!! Just wanted to tell you that I for one will be standing in front of that all-male parliament tomorrow at 8.00 a.m. inshallah, along with a couple of my friends. I just hope that those men with the archaic mentality will get the message loud and clear.. WOMEN WILL NOT BE SIDELINED ANY MORE!! Oh yes.. and happy birthday to you.. :)

  6. Jackie Says:

Snookie, is it? This is a little late in the game, but I ran across your blog from March 1, 2005, while I was doing research for a Women’s Equality presentation. I can’t see this cartoon all of you speak of. If you’re still logging on out there let me know, I would like to receive it. And in case you’re wondering, in my presentation I largely wanted to mention how Kuwaiti women got to vote this year. I’m sure it made for a happy belated 20th birthday gift.
