“Lucy in the Sky Wih Diamonds” Not About LSD!

Posted: March 31st, 2005 | Filed under: Cool, Music | 7 Comments »

The song by The Beatles, “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” is a favorite of my mine, and most Beatle fans. A song so beatiful in words as in images. The images you see in your head when you listen to it, that is. You can get a taste in it in the animated film “Yellow Submarine”. A cartoon about a village called Pepperland, a town filled with color, love, and music. But then the Blue Meanies invade Pepperland and turn every thing into grey statues. Including Sargeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (this title was one of their album names) who provide the music for the village.

Luckly, one man escapes using Sargeant Pepper’s Yellow Submarine. He then searches far and wide for someone to help bring back the music to Pepperland. He then bumps into The Beatles!

They join him and on their way, they come across delightful adventures that trigger a scene with an original song. My favorite scenes are when the man is searching for someone to help him because “Eleanor Rigby” is running though it, the other one is obviously “Lucy..”. ANYWAY, what I was initially trying to say is that many believe that “Lucy..” is a song about the drug LSD. That is absolutley NOT true. But I don’t deny that The Beatles used drugs.

The story about “Lucy..” is that John Lennon’s son Julian came home from school one day with a picture he had drawn about a a classmate of his named Lucy O’Donnell. Julian explained the picture to his father, who was so moved with it, he and Paul began working on the song right away. Paul added the words “cellophane flowers” and “newspaper taxis” himself. Above is the image of Julian’s drawing.

Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds (Lennon-McCartney)
Picture yourself in boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalde skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.
Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she’s gone.
Lucy in the sky with diamonds,
Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies,
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers,
That grow so incredibly high.
Newspaper taxis appear on the shore,
Waiting to take you away.
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds,
And you’re gone.
Lucy in the sky with diamonds,
Picture yourself on a train in a station,
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties,
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile,
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes.
Lucy in the sky with diamonds.

War of the Beards

I was going to post a little something of me talking about the conservatives in the Kuwaiti government, but decided to delete it because I feared I might have some facts wrong. But I still kept the title to start up a little discussion if anyone is willing to input their ideas and opinions.
I never really cared about the government or even knew we had a constitution, but I became aware of the effect the conservatives have had in the past few years. Example 1: Forbidding the Star Academy auditions to be held in Kuwait. Example 2: Separating the girls from the boys in AUK (an American institution!).
I believe this is the PERFECT time for women to get their political rights. Once we get a say, I beleive that most of the conservatives holding positions in the parliment will be replaced by open-minded persons willing to make Kuwait a nicer place to live; with less idiotic restrictions.
Main target: Ahmed Baqer aka The Wife Abuser
What I want to know from you is, what aspects or parts of our government are the conservatives currently controlling? What fatwas are they applying on us? And what are some of their future plans?
Again, I also want to know your opinions and views on this topic.

To those of you who are waiting for the “Guess Who” series, they will still be coming but not as frequently as last week because Spring Break just ended and I have less time. But I have the person in mind. Check back soon!

This is my latest cartoon. Done yesterday. I got the idea from the protest posters that were held in the rally. The ones that said “NOW”. Reminded me of the word appointment and meeting and whatsoever. So I thought it would be fun to make that as a calender event.

I hope you like it.

Guess Who #1

To improve my accuracy of drawing faces and actual people, I decided to start a little series where you guess who the person I drew is! No, there is no prize.

This first one is obviously easy, and I have no doubt someone will get the right answer right away. I hope you DO guess it easily because that means I was accurate! So there’s no loser here! Enjoy!

And the winner is ANAKIN! With the correct answer, Nelly, after 3 failed attempts. Good job!
